ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's cross country team finished 17th out of 24 teams at the NCAA Division III Niagara Region Championships hosted by University of Rochester on Saturday morning.
The Saxons were led by
Mari Jablonski (Monticello, GA/Jasper County) in 73
rd scoring place (74
th overall) with a time of 25:22.7. Her and four other Saxons all had position advancements leading to the final stretch and finish line as both her and
Ashley O'Toole (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) passed seven runners from their original placings after their first 2K checkpoint. O'Toole was just two positions out of scoring for the Saxons as she finished 120
th scoring and 126
th overall with a 28:02.3.
"The ladies almost had three get into the Top-100," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "The course was a bit slow all-around today for both races due to the rain causing some muddy sections."
McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) followed Jablonski with a time of 25:40.2 for 83
rd place scoring (85
th overall).
Sarah Lutkins (Union Springs, NY/Union Springs) just missed an overall finish in the Top-100 as she crossed the line 102
nd with a time of 26:36.8. She did, however, make it into the Top-100 in terms of scoring, finishing 98
th.
"I'm very proud of how our season went this year," Coach Phillips said. "We saw a lot of progression with this young team and they should be very happy with the work they've done and all the miles they've ran this fall. It has been a joy watching them accomplish their goals and seeing their hard work pay off."
Ivy Vallely (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) ran a 27:36.4 for 114
th scoring and
Sam Arthurs (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) scored in 118
th place with a time of 27:51.9 on Saturday.
