ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished fourth out of six teams competing at the Rochester Institute of Technology Indoor Meet on Friday evening.
Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) had the top finish on the evening as she won the weight throw with a toss of 13.96m, just under a meter away from her own school record of 14.85m. She then finished second in the shot put with a throw of 10.92m, totaling 18 team points on the day.
The Saxons' top scorer was
Bianca Durso (Utica, NY/New Hartford Senior) as she had 18 individual points as well as contributing to six points in a relay. Her top finish was in the high jump as she cleared 1.46m to earn second place. Durso was third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.16 and added a fifth place finish in the long jump with a vault of 4.46m. Durso teamed with
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central), McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and
Morgan Brothers (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) in the 4x400-meter relay for third place with a time of 4:37.53.
"Our women had a fantastic evening with so many stepping up and earning scoring places," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Having so many different athletes earn those top positions really gets us excited for the next meet and the next. We're going to get right back to work and keep this momentum going forward."
Olivia Chamberlin (Holland, NY/Holland) followed Durso in the long jump with a sixth place finishing jump of 4.35m.
Gilbert also earned a second place finish on the evening as she ran a 3:24.72 in the 1,000-meter run. Brothers followed in the event with a time of 3:38.80 to take fifth. Hall took fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.58 and was followed by
Sarah Lutkins (Union Springs, NY/Union Springs) with a time of 2:49.21 for eighth place.
Ashley Page (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) rounded out the individual top finishes with a fifth place, 1:07.08 time in the 400-meter dash.
The other Saxon relay that earned team points besides the 4x400-meter team was the 4x200-meter relay team of
Megan Jones (Far Rockaway, NY/White Plains), Chamberlin,
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NH/Woodsville) and
McKenzie Grosskopf (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) as they combined for a time of 2:16.76, claiming second place.
The Saxons will next compete at Ithaca College on Saturday, February 5 at 10:00am while Durso will also compete in the pentathlon at SUNY Brockport on Friday at 4:00pm.
