Zac Mapes (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and first-year
Alex Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) were selected as the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Men's Field and Track Athletes of the Week, respectively on Monday afternoon.
Monday's announcement made it both Mapes' and Spicer's second career recognition for Empire 8 Weekly awards as Mapes earned it on April 3 of 2017 and Spicer earned it just last Monday, March 18, 2019.
Mapes led the Saxon field athletes on Saturday at the California University of Pennsylvania Early Bird Outdoor Invitational against Division II and Division III competitors. He finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 12.14m. He also took 16th in the long jump with a distance of 5.60m.
Spicer continued his sprinting successes in the outdoor season. He took fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20 while earning sixth with a 22.71 finish in the 200-meter dash for sixth place. He also teamed with
Papa Dioum (Harlem, NY),
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) and
Rashid Abuelmaali (Latham, NY/Shaker) in the 4x100-meter relay for sixth place with a time of 45.49.
Mapes, Spicer and the Saxons will next head to the SUNY Geneseo Invitational on Saturday, March 30 for a 10AM meet start.
