ALFRED, NY -- First-year Alex Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) of the Alfred University men's track & field team picked up his first Empire 8 Athletic Conference Weekly Award as he was named the Track Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Spicer took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.65 during the Alan Connie/Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. He defeated runners from multiple Division II and Division I schools. He also ran a 10.97 in the 100-meter dash for eighth place on Friday.

He also earned Saxon of the Week alongside of Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) of the Alfred University softball team. Wilcox also earned Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Spicer and the Saxons will next head to California, PA for a two-day, Early Bird Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23.
