ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's basketball team has been recognized by the Empire 8 Athletic Conference five times during the 2018-19 season with all five coming from Rookie of the Week honors. On Monday, senior
Sage Brown (Cortland, NY/Cortland) picked up the sixth award and first to be Player of the Week for this year.
Both
Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicotville) were honored prior to Brown. Marshall has earned Empire 8 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week three times while Bowen has claimed the award twice. This is Brown's second career claiming of the award as he earned it last season. He was also named as one of the Saxons of the Week along with women's track & field's
Sierra Wilson (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) on Monday, making it the third time he has earned that recognition this season and fifth in his career.
As for his weekly performance, Brown helped the Saxons go 3-0 on the week behind his pinpoint shooting. He finished the week with a shooting average of 76.0% from the floor including a 57.1% mark from beyond the arc. He totaled 51 points as he averaged 17.0 points per game. Brown recorded a double-double with his 12 points and 10 rebounds against Stevens and had a week-high 22 points against Sage Colleges. Brown totaled 22 rebounds, 10 assists and four blocks on the week as well.
Brown and the Saxons will next host Elmira College in Empire 8 play on Tuesday, February 12 at 7:30PM in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
