DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Alfred University men's basketball team will leave Florida on a good note with a 63-60 win over Kenyon College on Monday afternoon during the final day of the 2019 Land of Magic Classic.
Â
"It was a great team effort today. We are taking steps in the right direction and being able to close out a tight game down the stretch is a big step in our development," Head Coach
Russell Phillips said. "Multiple guys made big plays and we are happy to leave Daytona with a win."
Â
The Saxons (5-4, 0-0 Empire 8) had two players in double-digit figures as
Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicotville) had 20 points, going 9-for-16 from the floor and
Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY/Hornell) recorded 13 points, sinking all six of his free throws, hitting a clutch 3-pointer and putting in two additional field goals.
Â
Defensively, Bowen had seven rebounds and two steals, Dagon chipped in five rebounds and two steals and
Brewster Marshall (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) pulled down a game-high eight boards and tied for a game-high two blocks.
Â
Alfred University held the advantage for almost the entire game after a 25-21 first half lead. Kenyon made a late surge to tie the game and even take the lead, but it was Dagon's 3-pointer and a free throw from
Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) that put the game away.
Â
The Saxons will next leave the Sunshine State to head home as they will travel to take on The College at Brockport on Friday, January 3 at 5 p.m. in non-conference action.
