HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team opened its 2019-20 season on Friday at the annual Houghton College December Classic.

Saul McCoy (Queens Village, NY/Bayside) is the first Saxon to claim a spot in the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Championships as he had the highest finish for Alfred University. He threw a distance of 14.13m in the shot put to finish third on Friday.

"We had men competing in almost every single event tonight as the team did awesome overall," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "I'm looking forward to how the men will continue to grow how they will continue to do well for us this season."

The Saxons saw four more Top-5 finishes as
Blake Angel (Marysville, OH/Marysville Early College) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.17,
Sean Raymond (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) had two fifth place finishes with times of 2:06.16 and 9:51.86 in the 800-meter run and 3,000-meter run, respectively, and
John Fedison (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) ran a 1:33.26 for fifth place in the 600-meter dash.

Fedison was closely followed by
Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) in the 600 as Trimboli raced to a time of 1:33.33 for sixth place.
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) also had a sixth place finish on the evening with a time of 54.50 in the 400-meter dash.

Anthony Brandl (Akron, NY/Akron) and
Kyle Full (Akron, NY/Akron) closed out the top finishes for the Saxons as both picked up a pair of eighth place finishes. Brandl ran a 1:04.38 in the 400 and Full ran a 10:10.85 in the 3,000-meter run.

The Saxons will officially begin their winter break before coming back to compete in the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday, January 18 at 10 a.m.
