ALFRED, NY -- Despite a conference loss to SUNY Cortland, senior
Nick Milgate (Hilton, NY/Hilton) still spearheaded the defense that held the top offense in the Empire 8 to only 55 yards rushing as he was named the E8 Football Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as made official in an announcement from Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Milgate led the Saxon defense that held arguably the best offense in the Empire 8 to only 221 yards of total offense with only 55 of them coming from rushing plays. Milgate's defense also only allowed 10 first downs as he had 11 total tackles (seven assisted) with 2.5 tackles for a loss of three yards. Milgate also broke up one pass on the day.
Milgate was joined by women's swimming & diving's
Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and men's soccer's
Ben Middlemiss (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) as the other Alfred University recipients of Empire 8 Weekly Awards. Serotta was the Athlete of the Week and Middlemiss was the Defensive Player of the Week.
Milgate and the Saxons will next host Hartwick College on Saturday, October 26 for a 1 p.m. Saxon-for-Saxon game.
