Box Score HILTON HEAD, SC – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team (0-1, Empire 8 0-0) fell 16- 1 to #23 ranked Lawrence Tech (NAIA) during its season opener on Monday afternoon in Hilton Head, SC.

Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored the lone goal for the Saxons in their 2018 season opener after leading the team in scoring in 2017. She also led the team with five shots and three free position shots on goal in the game.

Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) led AU with three draw controls while first year
Quinn Fowler (Chester, NY/Washingtonville), sophomore
Allison Hanvey (Camden, NY/Camden) and Gilbert all chipped in with a draw control each.

Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) notched nine saves in the game while going the distance between the pipes for the Saxons. Senior
Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) and Hanvey both put a shot on goal for the Saxons.
Fowler earned the only caused turnover for the Saxons during the matchup while MacWilliams led the team with three ground balls.

Erin McGaffigan said. "We saw great competition in Lawrence Tech today and I'm happy to start the season with such high level of play. We continue to grow and learn from each other and I'm very excited to see our commitment to the process."

AU is back in action next Monday when they travel to Utica, NY to take on SUNY Poly at 4PM.
