Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Saxons Snap Two-Game Skid; Romp the Soaring Eagles 14-2

ELMIRA, NY – First-year attack Joey Carra III (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) had a break out game, scoring four goals as the Alfred University men's lacrosse team beat-up host Elmira College in the conference opener, 14-2.

The Saxons (5-3, 1-0 Empire 8) got plenty of offense from junior attack Anthony Riccottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) with three goals and two goals from senior midfielder Samuel DiRisio (Prattsburgh, NY/Penn Yan). Senior Allen Vitale (Rochester, NY/Brighton), juniors Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Ahtena) and Frank Gavigan (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown), sophomore Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) and first-year Dalton McCumber (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) each scored a goal to round out the scoring for Alfred. Junior Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) was again stellar at setting up his teammates as he had two assists.

The defense was once again led by Weber as he set a new career-high 11 ground balls and had a game-high six caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Caleb DuBois (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) added three ground balls while Gavigan chipped in with three caused turnovers.

"We played a good second half," said Head Coach Jason Lockner. "We dodged hard and shot better. Shane (Weber) was able to lockdown their top guy while Joey (Carra) played outstanding on attack. It shows that he has been putting in the work."

Sophomore midfielder Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) had a strong showing in the faceoff circle, winning four-of-six face-offs.

Senior goalkeeper Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) played 55:30 of the game in net as he picked up the win while making eight saves. Senior goalkeeper Chris Doktor (Irondeqouiot, NY/Eastridge) finished the game in net, making one save.

The Saxons are next at home against SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, March 28, at 4 PM. This marks the start of a three-game home stand.
