Empire 8 Play of the Week
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Oswego State, 11-7 Tuesday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium in non-conference action.
The Saxons (4-3, 0-0 Empire 8) were led by sophomores
Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) and
Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) and junior
Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) with a goal and an assists apiece. Junior
Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) also finished with two points, both coming from assists.
"We played a physical team and Oswego came to play today," Head Coach
Jason Lockner said. "We shot ourselves in the foot again and it's something that we're working on. We just have to get refocused and get it done. We're trying to get better and get ready to go into conference play and that's what it's all about. This is a good Oswego team and, if anything, they helped us to know what we have to work on."
Weber was also a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end as he finished with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. Junior
Frank Gavigan (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) and Fornataro chipped in with five ground balls each. Gavigan also chipped in with four caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper
Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) went the distance in net, making 12 saves on 23 shots faced.
The Saxons look to get back in the win column this Saturday, March 24, as they open up Empire 8 play at Elmira College at 1 PM.
