ALFRED, NY – The Empire 8 Conference has named Jayden Gavidia (Homer, NY/Homer), a junior wide receiver on the Alfred University football team, Offensive Player of the Week.

Gavidia was honored for his play in Saturday's 24-17 victory over visiting Empire 8 foe Utica College. The junior had a school-record 13 pass receptions for 207 yards and a touchdown. The 13 receptions broke the school mark of 11, set four times previously: most recently by Trevor Bork in 2008 against Ithaca. The 207 receiving yards were just one off the school single-game mark of 208 set by Bork in the 2008 Ithaca game.

Gavidia's nine-yard touchdown grab late in the first quarter opened the scoring for the Saxons, and by halftime he had 10 catches for 145 yards as AU led 10-3 at intermission.

Alfred, ranked 23^rd in this week's D3football.com national poll, improved to 2-0 (1-0 Empire 8) with the win over Utica. The Saxons play next on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at home against Rochester.
