ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team earned its first Empire 8 weekly honors of the 2017 season when senior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) was selected as the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Volz was undefeated on the week as the Saxons earned an Empire 8 win over Utica College on Friday, 8-1. Volz first teamed with Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) in No. 1 doubles to top Christopher Dunn and Paul Litvak 8-2. He then only gave up one game in his No. 1 singles win over Dunn, 6-1, 6-0.

Volz and the Saxons are squaring off with Oswego State today (Monday, April 17) and will then look to next take on Elmira College on the road on Wednesday, April 19 at 4 pm.
