ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University hunt seat equestrian team hosted a show Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park. The Saxons competed against 12 other teams and took first place.
AU riders swept the top individual honors, with junior
Kelsey Evoy (Medina, NY/Medina), being named High Point Rider and senior
Alicia Mayville (Canastota, NY/Canastota) earning the award for Reserve High Point Rider.
Evoy took first place in two events – intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat – while Mayville was first in open equitation over fences and second in open equitation on the flat.
Seven other Saxon riders earned first-place ribbons: senior
Melanie Klein (Mastic Beach/NY/William Floyd) and first-year
Thomasina Zaengle (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) in novice equitation over fences; junior
Courtney Slack (Dalton, NY/Fillmore) in novice equitation on the flat; and sophomores
Lauren Cole (Boston, NY/Springville) and
Taylor Soderholm (Tully, NY/Tully) and juniors
Nick Sugg (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary's) and
Nellie Burch (Wells, VT/Long Trail), all in advanced walk-trot-canter.
Other top riders for AU included: senior
Jessica Lewis (Clarence, NY/Clarence), second in intermediate equitation over fences and third in intermediate equitation on the flat; junior
Sam Stamp (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), second in novice equitation over fences; sophomore
Kendra Byrwa (Wasilla, AK/Colony), second in novice equitation on the flat; and first-
year Emma Glickman (Seattle, WA/Ingraham), third in novice equitation on the flat.
The Saxons' hunt team returns to action Feb., 25 for another home show at Alfred Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park.
