ALFRED, NY -- The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced on Monday afternoon that senior Miguel Reyes (Valencia, Venezuela/La Salle) of the Alfred University men's soccer team earned Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Reyes helped lift the Saxons to a 3-2 Empire 8 win on Saturday. The Saxons were the first between them and Houghton to get on the scoreboard just 26 minutes into the game, but back-to-back goals by the Highlanders put the Saxons down by one. With just eight minutes left in regulations, Alfred was awarded a direct kick after a Highlander earned a red card. Reyes took the kick and curved the shot from 20 yards out into the top left corner of the goal, tying the match, 2-2. Deep into the second overtime period, Reyes was awarded a penalty kick in which he kept his shot low and again, to the left as the Houghton keeper dove the opposite way.

Reyes and the Saxons will next host Montclair State University on Tuesday, October 17 at 7 pm.
