ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team saw their season come to a close in a 2-1 loss to Nazareth University on Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons ended the season 8-4-4, with their best finish since the 2023 season when they last made the Empire 8 Tournament. AU recorded two shots on net in the first half from Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) and reigning Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake).

Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) also made his only three saves of the game in the first half, and also forcing the Golden Flyers to miss a penalty kick. But a goal just past the half hour mark put the Saxons behind after the end of the first half.

Alfred University would ramp up the pressure in the second half, with 10 shots and ending the game with seven on target. Lawrence John Taylor (Bong County, Liberia/Westminster School) and Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) led the way with three shots and two on frame.

Nazareth would find a second goal with just over 12 minutes to play. Niko Lampros Mendoza (Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) would score his first goal of the season to claw back into it with seven minutes to go, with Bowman notching the assist. However, it would be too little, too late for the visitors to keep their season alive.

Alfred University will turn its attention to the offseason and spring ball in preparation for the Fall 2027 season.
