ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University men's outdoor track and field student-athlete,
Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post), earned Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The sophomore claimed the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Decathlon Championship title after sitting in third place after day one at Westfield (MA) State University. Spicer finished with 6,222 points which surpassed runner-up Andrew Herwig of Colby College by 95 points. Spicer's point total was a personal best that shattered his old mark by 343 points that he set during the NYSCTC Championships at St. Lawrence University. His come-from-behind win was made possible with his final five events in which he broke his personal best in four of them. The personal bests were set during his 110 meter hurdles (15.84), pole vault (3.60 meters), javelin (41.07 meters), and the 1,500 meter run (4:22.94). Spicer also won the discus throw with a toss of 32.66 meters on the final day. During day one, he threw a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 12.53 meters to claim his first win of the day. One more personal record was broken for him on the day in the 400 meter dash (52.08).
