ALFRED, NY -- Senior captain of the Alfred University men's tennis team,
Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) earned the weekly award from the Empire 8 as Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Doud had a perfect spring break training trip from the singles side of things, going 3-0 at No. 1 singles before the Saxons, plagued by injury and illness, had to forfeit their last two matches. Doud added a 2-1 record at No. 1 doubles alongside of fellow senior captain,
Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen). The duo topped Wittenberg University's Luke Minard and Timmy McNulty 8-5 before Doud soloed a win against Minard 6-1, 6-2. Next, they defeated University of Northwestern's (MN) CJ Loyd and Brett Jacobus also by a score of 8-5 before Doud bested Loyd one-on-one with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Doud picked up his final singles win against Roger Williams's Eric Laboissonniere in a close match, 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 to round out his spring trip. Doud hasn't been defeated in singles since falling to nationally-ranked Nick Litsky of Vassar College during the ITA Northeast Regionals.
The Saxons will next open up Empire 8 play on Saturday, March 19 at Hartwick College. The match will begin at 1:00 pm.
