Saxons bombard Storm

Box Score

KEUKA PARK, NY—Saxons (3-1-0, Empire 8 0-0) bombard Keuka College with 25 shots in 3-1 victory.

The AU defense set the tone for the entire game on Saturday evening's game only giving up 3.  Between solid defense and tough, gritty offensive play the Saxons were able to pull out a win in Keuka Park against the Keuka Storm.

Kyle Craver (So., Great Fall, VA/Field School) got the Saxons out in front early when he found the net in the 11th minute.   Craver received the ball when it rattled off the post from a Jeff Thomas (Sr., Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) shot and he went across the net to the far post and the ball spun in.

The Storm would not go down quietly in the first half, scoring a late goal by way of an Austin Gerber free kick that went off the far post and past junior keeper Matthew Unick (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley).  The first half would end in a 1-1 draw.

The Saxons came out in the second half ready to set the pace, taking the lead only six minutes in.  Omar Mohamed (Jr., Rochester, NY/Edison) received a ball from sophomore Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West) inside the 12-yard line and ripped a cross body shot past Keuka's keeper Preston Vick.  Vick would finish the game with 7 saves.

In the 75th minute, Lander would come through the box in attempt to put the game away for the Saxons, but hit the post.  Sophomore teammate Graeme Corrigan (Troy, NY/Troy) took advantage of the rebound and ripped a shot to the back of the net.

Unick finished the game with two saves behind the stellar Saxon defense.

The Saxons are on the road again September 9th, against Hilbert College at 4pm.
