Saxons earn second shutout vs. Pitt-Brad

Box Score

BRADFORD, PA—Matthew Unick (Jr., Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and the Saxon defense shut out the Pitt-Bradford Panthers as the offense scored two goals.

It was an overall team effort for the AU men's soccer team during Tuesday afternoon's game.  The offense barraged the Panthers with 13 shots on goal while the defense only allowed three shots on goal.

Sophomore Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West) refused to be denied a goal, shooting six times in the game.  He netted his first goal of the season in the 38th minute on a shot from deep outside the box putting the Saxons up 1-0 late in the first half.

Following half time the Saxons continued to be aggressive taking 11 shots with Lander leading the charge.  However, it was Omar Mohamed (Jr., Rochester, NY/Edison) who increased the lead with just 20 minutes left in the game when Jeff Thomas (Sr., Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) sent a ball across the face of the net and Mohamed headed the ball past the Panther's keeper, Colin Frownfelter.

Unick finished the game with three saves behind his solid defense to maintain his second shutout in a row.

The Saxons (2-1-0, Empire 8 0-0) play again September 6th at Keuka College.
