Box Score ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team improved to 16-5 on the season with a 105-98 win over visiting Hartwick, Saturday afternoon. This win moves AU up to 7-3 in the Empire 8 and drops Hartwick down to 8-4.
Freshman guard
Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) hit a jumper with 5:20 left in the first half that tied the game at 30-30. Alfred had battled back from a 10-point deficit, going on a 15-5 run, but Hartwick headed into halftime on top, 48-42.
In the second half, AU out-rebounded Hartwick, 32 to 18, and improved on first half shooting, going from 38 percent to 48 percent from the field, 23 percent to 33 percent from beyond the arc, and 64 percent to 69 percent from the free throw line.
Alfred established and sustained a 10-point lead with 4:15 left in regulation, helping secure the win as time expired.
Seelman went off in the second half, scoring 23 of his 25 points, converting 10-of-20 from the field and three-for-four from the free-throw line. Junior center
Dalton Walsh (Stockton, NY/Cassadaga Valley) scored 13 points and pulled down a team-best nine boards. Senior forward
Thomas Tsatsis (Neponsit, NY/Townsend Harris) racked up 15 points and five steals, and senior center
Gerald Colas (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) finished with 13 points off a steady five-for-six field goal shooting.
AU resumes play on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. against Utica College.
