Kromah Capitalizes With Two Goals as AU Beats Westminster

ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team took care of business in its first full game of the season, defeating Westminster College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought the guys responded really well to going down a goal early," Head Coach Garret Eldridge said. "We fought hard and played some good soccer at times. We'll look to build on this and continue getting better on Tuesday."

The Saxons would control play early, including a disallowed goal for offsides by Jesus De La Torre (Malaga, Spain/The Woodstock Academy). The Titans found some momentum about 15 minutes in forcing a key save early for Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township).

The visitors would break through in the 18th minute as AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) couldn't get behind Mulholland quick enough to keep the ball out of the net. However, just one minute later, Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) would equalize with a chip shot over Westminster's goalkeeper.

Just two minutes later, the Saxons would find the go-ahead goal off the head of Lawrence John Taylor (Bong County, Liberia/Westminster School) with Kromah and De La Torre helping set up once again. Alfred doubled up Westminster in shots in the first half alone, forcing five saves out of the netminder.

In the second half, the Saxons wouldn't slow down and continued to control play to keep the Titans away from Mulholland. Kromah scored his second goal in the 78th minute with a calculated individual effort. He carried the ball through midfield, beating a handful of defenders to find the bottom right corner to put the game to bed.

Alfred University will look to keep its perfect record with another home non-conference match-up against Fredonia on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
