ALFRED, NY – Becca Epping (Mitchell, IN/Bedford North Lawrence) of the Alfred University women's tennis team was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Epping went a combined 3-1 on the week between singles and doubles. In singles, she was undefeated. Epping started with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Houghton University, helping the Saxons win, 5-2. Epping then moved up to No. 1 singles against SUNY Brockport where she battled Cara Vasile. Epping emerged victorious with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 showing. Epping and teammate, Elizabeth Madsen (Portland, OR/Grant) earned a 6-3 No. 1 doubles win on Saturday as well at Brockport.
 
Epping was joined in the Empire 8 Weekly Honors by Martin Flanders Jr (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) as the Football Defensive Player of the Week and Derek Alexei Rodriguez (Panama Oeste, Panama/Colegio San Gabriel de le Delarosa) as the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Epping was also named a Saxon of the Week alongside Flanders and Ayomideji Israel-Akinbo (Makhanda, Eastern Cape, South Africa/St. Andrews College).
