OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team split a pair on non-conference matches against Bard College and Clarkson University on Saturday during the final day of competition in the Oswego State Laker Classic.
The Saxons (4-8, 0-0 Empire 8) started off with a 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15 four-set victory over the Raptors (2-8, 0-0 Liberty League) before being swept, 16-25, 10-25, 11-25 in three sets to the Golden Knights (8-2, 0-0 Liberty League).
Match One
Alfred University – 3 (25, 25, 22, 25) | Bard College – 1 (22, 16, 25, 15)
Julia Abbott (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) put up a match-high and vastly surpassed her career-high in kills and points for a four-set match. She led the Saxons with 19.0 points on 16 kills and three aces while recording nine digs.
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) followed with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs, totaling 13.5 points with an additional three aces and on block assist.
Santavy was joined by
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial), Madalynn McGowan (Corona, CA/Norco) and Gillian Dickerson (Frisco, TX/Wakeland) as Saxons with double-digit digs. As a team, AU had 80 digs. Omelan led the way with 20. McGowan was right behind with 19. Dickerson had 13 ahead of Santavy's 10. Dickerson also had a career-high 32 set assists and added 9.5 points from six aces, three kills and one block assist.
Match Two
Alfred University – 0 (16, 10, 11) | Clarkson University – 3 (25, 25, 25)
Santavy had the team-high in scoring with 7.0 points on six kills and one ace. Dickerson had 12 set assists.
The Saxons will next travel to Lycoming College for a non-conference solo match on Thursday, September 24 at 6:00pm.
