Saxons Sweep Warriors to Start Three-Day, Five-Match Road Weekend

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Alfred University women's volleyball team picked up a solo, three-set win on the road at Lycoming College on Thursday evening.
 
The Saxons (5-8, 0-0 Empire 8) never let the Warriors (3-10, 0-0 Landmark) score more than 20 points in each of the three set, winning the match with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-18 showing.
 
AU had standout advantages not only in the final score, but put together a complete team effort, leading the match in kills (30-18), aces (13-5), blocks (8-4), assists (28-17), digs (27-23) and attack percentage (0.193-0.013). The Saxons highlighted their offense as they hit 0.346 in the first set with 11 kills on 26 attacks and only two errors. In total, Alfred University only committed 14 attack errors compared to Lycoming's 17.
 
"This match was a great start to our long five-match weekend," Head Coach Mike Honeycutt said. "We played some of the best defense I've seen all season long. It's especially nice to beat a good team on their home floor."
 
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) had a team and match-high 10 kills and 11.0 points (after adding a service ace) and chipped in one set assist. Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) and Julia Abbott (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) both had double-digit points with 10.0 each. Santavy reached double-figures with seven kills, two aces and two block assists. Abbott totaled five kills, four aces and two block assists.
 
Gillian Dickerson (Frisco, TX/Wakeland) had a match-high 15 set assists and added seven digs and two aces. Jenesys Del Mar Moctezuma-Gonzalez (Bayamón, Puerto Rico/North Cobb) had a match-high 10 digs. Abbott was tied for a match-high with her four aces by teammate, Madalynn McGowan (Corona, CA/Norco). Whitney Kilton (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) had a match-high four blocks (three assisted and one solo).
 
The Saxons kept Lycoming players below double-digits, statistically, across their entire roster.
 
The Saxons will next travel to SUNY New Paltz for a Friday and Saturday, four-match series. First, they take on John Jay College on Friday, September 25 at 5:15pm, followed by a 7:30pm match with Moravian University. Then, on Saturday, September 26, the Saxons play against United States Merchant Marine Academy at 1:15pm and then the hosts at 5:45pm.
