OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team fell to the hosts of the Oswego State Laker Classic on Friday afternoon, 3-0.
The Saxons (3-7, 0-0 Empire 8) had a close second set but ultimately were defeated by putting up set scores of 16-25, 21-25 and 11-25.
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) had a match-high of 12.0 points from eight kills and four service aces.
Gillian Dickerson (Frisco, TX/Wakeland) had 19 set assists and hit a .667 with four kills on six attacks.
Eboni Thomas (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley) led the Saxons with nine digs.
In the second set, AU battled back from a 7-1 opening deficit to tie the set, 12-12 and then 13-13, but a 6-0 Laker scoring run put the hosts up, 19-13. Both teams battled back-and-fourth but AU couldn't come within three points of the Oswego lead.
The Saxons will next face two Liberty League institutions, Bard College and Clarkson University on Saturday, September 19 with the first match against the Raptors at 12:00pm and the final against the Golden Knights at 2:00pm.
