ALFRED, NY – Alfred University Athletics has announced the hiring of
Thomas Welch '26 as its new Head Strength & Conditioning Coach ahead of the 2026–27 academic year.
"I've had the pleasure of getting to know Thomas as a student-athlete here and this interview process," Head Athletic Trainer and Athletics Healthcare Administrator
Ronald Demchak said. "Throughout this interview process nothing was more apparent than his love of Alfred University. I am excited to have Thomas join our department. His knowledge, passion and leadership skills will be a key part to reinvigorating our strength & conditioning program."
Welch returns to Alfred after a distinguished career as a four-year member of the football program. Serving as a team captain during the 2025 season, he earned All-Empire 8 Second Team honors. He was also recognized with the Saxon Strong Award at the 2025–26 ALFYS, presented by the strength & conditioning staff.

"I'm extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of the Alfred University family!" Welch said. "Alfred has given me so much, so to be able to come back and give back to the Alfred community and student-athletes is exciting. I can't wait to work with all the teams here at Alfred University."
In addition to his experience at Alfred, Welch worked with Next Level Strength & Conditioning in 2024, assisting with athletic testing, injury prevention strategies, and program design.
