ALFRED, NY – Evan Liu was announced as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Alfred University on Monday afternoon, earning a promotion from the Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant.
 
"I'm honored, grateful and thrilled for the opportunity to start my full-time athletic communications career at Alfred University! Alfred took a chance on me and I took a chance on them, and it couldn't have worked out any better," Liu said. "I cannot wait to continue impacting student-athletes journey while at Alfred for years to come!"
 
Liu has spent the past two school years as the Graduate Assistant at Alfred University and has covered all 30 sports offered. He has served as the sport contact for men's soccer, men's and women's rugby (both XVs and 7s), men's and women's alpine skiing, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's lacrosse, men's tennis and men's and women's cross country. Liu has also traveled with men's and women's indoor track & field and baseball.
 
For the past two years, Liu has also managed and executed tasks involving weekly event announcements, assisted with football communications operations and has managed the 'Dear Sport' video series, a tradition installed by former Athletic Communications student, Isabella Carrillo '23 that gives graduating Saxon seniors the opportunity to write a goodbye letter to their sport.
 
Liu joins Associate Director of Athletic Communications, Devon Withers and Director of Athletic Communications, Chris Boswell. "We have been consistently proud of Evan's journey as our Graduate Assistant and couldn't be more excited that he is now moving into the Assistant Director position," Boswell said. "Not only has he proven time-and-time again that he can do the job, he also has made it a point to make strong, positive connections with our Saxon student-athletes, our coaches and our staff. Evan is universally well-liked on campus and I'm sure this announcement will spark excitement from our Saxons."
 
Liu first joined the Alfred University Athletic Communications staff in August of 2024.
 
"Evan has been an incredible team player to our Athletic Communications department, consistently bringing dedication, creativity and professionalism to everything he does," Withers said. "We're excited to have him continue his work with Alfred University Athletics and look forward to the impact he will continue to make in supporting our student-athletes and programs."
 
Prior to AU, Liu graduated from Colorado State University in 2023 with his BA in Political Science with a minor in Media Studies. He was the Communications Intern for CSU Athletics where he helped manage game day operations and reported on a variety of D1 events across multiple sports.
 
Most recently, Liu was the Social Media Manager and Writer for The Daily DownForce, a website focusing on all things NASCAR, assisting with the launch of the new platform to share and promote growth while covering the races. He also has been the Managing Editor for two websites at a professional level covering the Colorado Avalanche, Puck Yeti, and the official SBNation site of the Avs, Mile High Hockey.
 
Liu also volunteered for the NCAA during the March Madness first and second rounds, taking part in game operations, pregame and postgame setup and breakdown, and gaining insightful quotes in locker rooms post game from both teams, with transcribed quotes being officially released by the NCAA.
 
Liu will simultaneously continue his MBA and will earn it in May.
