OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team came out victorious (5-2) in their Empire 8 match against Oswego State at the Ronney Tennis Courts on Friday.  

The Saxons (11-5, 5-2 Empire 8) took the doubles point against the Lakers (3-6, 3-4 Empire 8) with two wins.  

"This was a good win against a team that will not go away," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Proud of the guys and the fight they showed, super excited for tomorrow." 

AU kicked off the day with Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain / Colegio Casa Azul) and Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands / Blaise Pascal College) taking the No. 1 doubles win 6-1. Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN / Bethany Christian) and André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico, PrepaTec Esmeralda) followed with a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles match to clinch the doubles point.  

In singles, [Breece] Erickson was the first to deliver a point for the Saxons as he wrapped up the No. 3 spot strong, 6-2, 6-1. Shortly after, López Jiménez wrapped up the No. 2 singles match, winning 6-2, 7-5 and furthering his streak to nine.  

Josh Erickson (Falconer, NY / Falconer) was the next Saxon to give AU a point as he came out victorious at No. 6 singles in a tie breaker set, 5-7,6-1, 6-0. Zwerver closed out the scoring for AU at the No.4 spot with a tie breaker as well, 5-7,7-5,6-1.  

Alfred University will next head to Rochester, NY where they will face Nazareth University on Saturday, April 25 at 1pm.
