HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team swept visiting Lycoming College, 7-0 on Tuesday evening from Houghton University's Kerr-Pegula Field House.
The Saxons (10-5, 4-2 Empire 8) took the doubles point in a sweep of the two played matches over the Warriors (3-12, 0-8 Landmark) before winning all five of their played singles matches.

Jake Fisler said. "Highlight of the day was Mark [Ungurian] and Bill [Tran] sealing the doubles point, a great effort by them!"
After the doubles forfeit,
Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) and
Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) defeated the Lycoming No. 1 doubles team, 6-3 to earn the 1-0 lead heading into singles. A forfeit win at No. 6 singles gave AU the 2-0 advantage before the five singles matches went off.
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) got the early 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot.
Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands/Blaise Pascal College) had a clean slate, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles to make it a 4-0 advantage and secure the Saxon win.
André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) then added the fifth team point with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot.
The Saxons closed out the evening when
Josh Erickson (Falconer, NY/Falconer) had a 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles and
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Saxons will next close out their regular season with two Empire 8 road trips during the upcoming weekend. First, they travel to Oswego State for a 4:00pm match on Friday, April 24. Then, they head over to Nazareth University for a 1:00pm start on Saturday, April 25.
