ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University baseball team wrapped up their weekend of Empire 8 action with a 10-0 loss to St. John Fisher University on Sunday afternoon from Galanis Stadium.
TJ Pappas (Saddle Brook, NJ Saddle Brook) pitched well for Alfred University, striking out a pair of batters across 4.2 innings of work.
Charlie Rapos (Warkworth, ON, Canada/Campbellford District) made a brief relief appearance for the Saxons before the game was called due to weather.
"TJ did a good job competing for us on the mound today," Head Coach
Brian Kehew said. "We are very happy with the way he has stepped up to be a consistent contributor and major piece of our pitching staff."
The first hit for AU came in the opening inning, as
Zachary Haggerty (Hollywood, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) registered a single through the left side. Two innings later,
Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh) and
Anthony Cortez (South Gate, CA/International Studies Learning Center) were each credited with base hits.
Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY/Edison) added a single up the middle in the fourth inning, but run support for the Cardinals in four separate innings was enough to come away with the sweep.
Alfred University will next travel to face Elmira College on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.
