ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team fell short to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher University in their home match on Saturday.
The Saxons (9-5, 4-2 Empire 8) opened with taking the doubles point with two wins over the Cardinals (9-3, 7-0 Empire 8). The St. John Fisher later took home the win with a down-to-the-wire victory in the No.6 singles with a tiebreaking set
.
"This was a disappointing loss where I feel we left a lot out on the court," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "We have to take a hard look in the mirror if we want to avoid results like this in the future."
Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) and
Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands/Blaise Pascal College) kicked off the action with a 6-1 win at No.1 doubles to bring forth their 10
th consecutive win.
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) and
André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico, PrepaTec Esmeralda) followed with the doubles-clinching point as they came away with a 6-3 victory.
In singles, Alvarez Janik and López Jiménez both delivered tiebreaking wins in close bouts against
Tyler Hernandez and
Will Chubb, respectfully. Alvarez Janik took the No.1 singles victory 6-3, 3-6,6-2 while López Jiménez won the No.2 singles 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
The Saxons will next host Lycoming College on Tuesday, April 21 at 4pm.
