Cameron Brought Smashes the First Saxon Home Run at Galanis Stadium in Two Losses to St. John Fisher

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University baseball team took on St. John Fisher University Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader and came up short in both contests. Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA / Wellsboro Area) tallied his first career home run as a Saxon and the first Saxon home run at Galanis Stadium.

The Saxons dropped the first contest 25-2, and lost the second game 32-4.

Game One

Alfred University tallied a run in the first inning after Brought launched a ball deep over the left-field fence, his first in the purple and gold.

The Saxons tacked on another run in the sixth. Following a walk by Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada / Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) and a ground ball that advanced him into scoring position, Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY / Middleburgh) smacked a double into the right-center field gap, bringing Pridmore in to score.

Game Two

Alfred University got their scoring started early. In the first inning, following a triple by Brought and two walks by Michael Ciardello (Rutherford, NJ / Moore Catholic) and Dylan Treadway (Buffalo, NY / Amherst Central), Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY / Edison) stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and smashed a ball deep into left-center field to empty the bases.

In the sixth, Zachary Haggerty (Hollywood, FL / Dr. Michael Krop) singled up the middle, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and made it to third after a Treadway single. Treadway then stole second and caused a bad throw that scored Haggerty from third.

"Our pitchers need to get into better counts," Head Coach Brian Kehew said. "We gave away too many free bases and weren't able to effectively throw our secondary pitches."

The Saxons are back in action on Sunday, April 19th, to close out the series against the Cardinals. The first pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
