ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University baseball team hosted Elmira College on Wednesday, losing in 8-2 across an eight-inning matchup.
"I like the way Michael pitched today," Head Coach
Brian Kehew said. "He had really nice changeup going. We had a good approach and took some good swings at the plate, but the hits were spread out and we couldn't string enough together."
Kyle Miller (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) made the initial start, striking out a pair of batters across two innings. Both
Michael Calogero (Henrietta, NY/Aquinas Institute) and
TJ Pappas (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) made relief appearances for the Saxons.
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) was the first Saxon to record a hit in the opening inning, registering a single to left field. The first run for the Saxons came in the second inning, as Nick
Yorlano (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) drove in
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) with an RBI single up the middle. Later in the game, Yorlano drew a walk with the bases loaded to cut into AU's deficit. Elmira relied on multiple runs in three separate innings before the game was called due to weather.
Alfred University will next host St. John Fisher University on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
