ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team fell in Empire 8 action on Friday evening during a road match at St. John Fisher University, 5-2.
The Saxons (7-4, 2-1 Empire 8) won one of the three doubles matches as
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) and
André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) took a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. The Cardinals (6-3, 4-0 Empire 8) claimed the team doubles point with 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
In singles, both López Jiménez and Erickson won their matches to remain undefeated on the evening. López Jiménez had a close bout with
Will Chubb at No. 2 singles, winning the match 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Erickson won the No. 3 singles match over
Matthew Lincoln with matching 6-2 set scores.
"This was a disappointing loss against a good team," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "We know where we fell short and will work to attack those areas tomorrow as we take on Oswego at home."
Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) also had a close singles match, playing at the No. 1 position, he fell to
Tyler Hernandez 6-3, 1-6, 1-6.
The Saxons will next return to their home outdoor tennis courts on Saturday, April 11 for a 1:00pm Empire 8 matchup with affiliate member, Oswego State.
