Box Score HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Empire 8 play after a 6-1 victory at Houghton University on Wednesday.
"This was a great match for both teams," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "It was a hard-fought win, and the overall score does not reflect how close each match was, with half of the singles matches going into third sets or third set tiebreakers. Proud of the guys and the effort they showed. This was a great opportunity to compete against a solid team."
In doubles play,
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and
Josh Erickson (Falconer, NY/Falconer) set the tone for the Saxons (6-3, 2-0 Empire 8) at No. 3 with a 6-2 win. The Highlanders (3-5, 0-2 Empire 8) answered at No. 1, 6-3, but
