ALFRED, NY – Alfred University men's tennis team member André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) was selected as the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday.

He receives this weekly honor for the first time in his career.

López Jiménez played an instrumental role in AU's first Empire 8 victory of the season against Nazareth University on Saturday. The first-year and partner Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) earned a dominating 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. López Jiménez broke the single-season record for most doubles wins with 11 as a result. He surpassed six Saxon alumni for this honor, with the previous record most recently set by Matt Baloga '16 and Connor Doud '16 during the 2015-16 season. He went on to win singles at No. 2, where he won the first set, 6-2, before following with a narrow 6-4 victory in the second.
