ONONDAGA COUNTY, NY – The Alfred University softball team split with Nazareth University during its home-opening, Empire 8-opening games on Sunday from Harrington Field as both games were the first games in the northern United States for AU.
 
The Saxons (2-15, 0-3 Empire 8) were highlighted by Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) who pitched the first 7.0 innings and sat the Wildcats's (6-5, 2-0 Empire 8) batters nine times while only giving up three hits.
 
Samuel Almonte (Lake Worth, FL/Santaluces) and Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) recorded AU's lone hits with Almonte's being a double.
 
The Wildcats only had one more hit than the Saxons.
 
The Saxons will next play an Empire 8 doubleheader on Monday, March 30 at 12:00pm and 3:00pm against SUNY Poly to close out the series from the Accelerate Sports Complex.
