Saxons Baseball Drops Two Non-Conference Games to Pitt-Bradford

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University baseball team took a pair of losses to Pitt-Bradford University on Tuesday at Galanis Stadium, located on the Saxon Hill Sports Complex.

The Saxons lost the first game 5-2 and were defeated 16-4 in the second match up.

"Thomas continued to throw the ball very well for us, and it was also good to see a few hitters make some adjustments they have been struggling with," Head Coach Brian Kehew said following the match ups. "I'm hoping that carries into our coming games."

Game 1

Thomas Makela (Cocoa, FL / Cocoa) threw all seven innings for Alfred University, allowing just one walk, striking out two batters, and keeping the game close.

In the second inning, Nick Yorlano (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) got the offense started with a lead-off single. Yorlano advanced to second on a wild pitch and made his way to third based on a Will Timpano (Orillia, ON, Canada / Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) single, setting up the Saxons with runners first and third with just one out. Dylan Treadway (Buffalo, NY / Amherst Central) cracked a single through the left side, scoring Tampano and giving Alfred University the initial lead.

Later in the fifth inning, following a walk by Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada / Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) and a single off the bat of Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY / Edison), Timpano bashed a single into right field to bring Pridmore across home plate.

Game 2

TJ Pappas (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) got the nod on the mound for game two, striking out three batters across 3.1 innings of work. Three other Saxons made relief appearances as part of the match up.

The Saxons offense got hot in the seventh inning. Treadway got the inning started with a double down the left field line and later stole third base to set up pinch hitter Samuel Almonte (Lake Worth, FL / Santaluces). Almonte bashed a single into right field, bringing Treadway across home plate. Following a Harry Muliyil (Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada / Cawthra Park) single to set up Alfred University with two men on base, Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY / Middleburgh) sent a double down the left field line to score Almonte.

In that same inning, Pridmore stepped up to the plate with two men on base and rocketed a single into center, scoring two runs for the Saxons late in the match up. The late-game effort was not enough as the Panthers hung on to complete the sweep of the doubleheader.

Alfred University will travel to Utica to take on SUNY Poly on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
