WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Alfred University baseball team wrapped up Spring Break competition with a pair of losses to Bard College on Saturday. 

The Saxons lost the first game 16-3, while dropping a 23-8 loss in the second matchup. 

Game One

Luke Rogoff (Cortland, NY/Cortland) got the initial start on the mound for Alfred University, lasting 3.1 innings for the Saxons. Axton Paul (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) and Luke Dubben (Cherry Valley, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield) each made relief appearances for Alfred University. 

The first hit for AU belonged to Sam Brocklebank (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) in the second inning. In the following inning, Brayden Bedingfield (Seabrook, TX/Clear Falls) scored from third base on a failed pickoff attempt to put AU on the scoreboard.

In the fifth inning, Ben Croote (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh) cut into AU's deficit with a solo home run to right field. Later in the inning, a fielding miscue by Bard allowed Gavin Walker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) to score from first base. 

Bard relied on runs in the each of the first five innings, along with a rain delay that ultimately ended the contest in the sixth inning, to come away with the win. 

Game Two 

Michael Calogero (Henrietta, NY/Aquinas Institute) made his second start of the Spring Break during the evening contest. Alex Duske (Melbourne, Australia/Ivanhoe Grammar School) made his first relief appearance of the spring season, while Thomas Makela (Cocoa, FL/Cocoa), Mason Urso (Alden, NY/Alden) and Brocklebank closed out the evening.

A sacrifice fly in the opening inning by Brocklebank gave AU their first run of the game.

In the third inning, Samuel Almonte (Lake Worth, FL/Santaluces) smacked an RBI double to drive in Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute). The Saxons immediately followed it up with an RBI triple by Brocklebank. Later in the inning, Anthony Cortez (South Gate, CA/International Studies Learning Center) put the ball in play to bring Brocklebank across home plate. 

The Saxons added four runs in the sixth inning, but consistent scoring from Bard was enough to earn the sweep.

Alfred University will next return to New York and travel to compete at Hilbert College on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 PM.
