HILTON HEAD, SC – The Alfred University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three with a 7-0 victory over Franciscan University on Thursday.

"This was a good team win today," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "Proud of the guys and how they rallied around each other and got the job done. Looking forward to seeing that broken as the season progresses."

The Saxons (4-2, 0-0 Empire 8) swept doubles to begin the match against the Barons (2-8, 0-0 PAC). Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) and Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands/Blaise Pascal College) earned a 6-0 win at No. 1. Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) and André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) took No. 2 by a score of 6-1. Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and Josh Erickson (Falconer, NY/Falconer) came out victorious at No. 3 with a 6-1 advantage.

Three Saxons found themselves in a close match during singles but were able to come out on top. López Jiménez registered scores of 6-4, 6-4 to earn a point for AU at No. 2. At No. 4, Zwerver took a narrow 6-4 win in the first set and closed out with a 6-2 victory in the second. [Josh] Erickson played at No. 6, where he lost the first set, 6-4. The first-year rebounded in the next two sets with scores of 6-2 and 10-3 to close out the match.

The Saxons play their final match of spring break against Muhlenberg College on Friday at 4:00 PM.
