HILTON HEAD, SC – The Alfred University men's tennis team picked up another spring break win against Curry College, 7-0, on Wednesday.
"It is apparent that this is a team that means business," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "This is a business trip and they proved that today with clinical play. Proud of the mentality and their belief in the system."
Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotova, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) and
Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands/Blaise Pacal College) secured their first doubles victory as a pair. The duo swept at the No. 1 position by a score of 6-0.
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) and
André López Jiménez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) also registered their first victory as partners at No. 2, 6-0. The Saxons (3-2, 0-0 Empire 8) earned the doubles point after a forfeit win from
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and
Josh Erickson (Falconer, NY/Falconer) at No. 3.
AU had five players sweep the Colonels (0-3, 0-0 CNE) in singles. López Jiménez and Zwerver both posted their second victories as Saxons at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0) and No. 4 (6-1, 6-0).
AU plays its next match against Franciscan University on Thursday at 12:30 PM.
