MORRISVILLE, NY -- The Alfred University men's lacrosse snapped up a second-straight win on the road against SUNY Morrisville 18-9 on Saturday afternoon.
"Slow start today, but the guys reacted and took care of business. Pretty proud of how they handled it. Morrisville was very physical and our guys kept their composure," Head Coach
Jason Lockner said. "It's some of the best offense I've seen us play in years. They are moving the ball very well.
Colin Kinsley (Walden, NY/Valley Central) continues to improve.
Sam Herle (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) did a nice job stepping in today.
Nicholas Kramer (Fredericksburg, VA/St. John Paul the Great) also played great D today!"
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) dominated the score sheet as he scored eight of the Saxons' 18 goals. The eight-goal mark marks a new career high for the senior. He scored the game-tying goal in the first quarter after his team let in the first three goals of the game. It was in the middle of a run where AU scored seven unanswered. Loewke also scored both of the Saxons' man-up goals late in the fourth quarter to put the game to bed.
Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) got the scoring started with
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scoring the first of his three goals just 40 seconds later in the first quarter. Riley also tagged on four assists for a high-scoring afternoon for the senior.
Nick Volpe (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) also continued his hot start to the year with an additional four goals and two assists on the afternoon.
Michael Gruin (Hamburg, NY/Orchard Park) also recorded a multi-point game with a goal and two assists against the Mustangs.
Other point scorers for the Saxons included assists for both
Keagan Hoesterey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) and
Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling). Cupp dominated at the face-off dot, winning 20 of his 26 face-offs.
Rhett Krieger (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) was also solid when called upon, going 3-for-4. Their success to start play from the get-go rallied AU forward to the goal.
In the crease for the Saxons,
Max Sigmund (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) recorded 12 saves in his second win of the season and was outstanding early on to keep AU from going down further.
Alfred University will play in its fourth straight road game at SUNY Oswego on Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m.
