ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) was named the Empire 8 Men's Swimmer of the Week on Monday.

Monday's recognition was the first time he earned a Swimmer of the Week honor, since the Empire 8 switched between the title of Athlete of the Week to Swimmer of the Week when they added the Diver of the Week honor. Prior to Monday, Gonzalez was a three-time Athlete of the Week recipient in the fall of 2024 and one-time Co-Athlete of the Week in the same season.

Gonzalez helped record a big win for the Alfred University Saxons over the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in men's swimming & diving, beating out the visitors 149-145. Gonzalez started the meet with a win as part of the squad in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.26. He chipped in with three more individual wins to win four of the 10 total wins for AU. His wins came in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:25.33), 500-yard freestyle (5:02.72), and in the 100-yard individual medley (54.22).

On Monday, Gonzalez was joined in the Empire 8 listings by Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball) as the Women's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week and AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) as the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Gonzalez and Omelan were also both named Saxons of the Week on Monday.
