Remm Named ECAC Player of the Year; Steward Named to All-ECAC Team

DANBURY, CT – Alfred University's Jessica Remm (Carmel, IN/Carmel) was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Softball Player of the Year on Friday afternoon.

Remm was also one of three All-ECAC Outfielders and was joined by Kendall Steward (Kennedy, NY/Randolph) as one of four All-ECAC Pitchers. The two Saxons were joined by Brooke Beleza of Utica University as an All-ECAC Shortstop and were the only members of the Empire 8 to earn recognition.

Remm had a standout season, finishing the regular season and Empire 8 Championships with a perfect, 1.000 fielding percentage. She was named the Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week twice and Saxon of the Week five times. At the end of the regular season, Remm broke the single season record for RBI at SUNY Poly with her 55th and continued to add to it to where she broke the Empire 8 record, held by Laura Remia of Ithaca College in 2001 with 63 RBI, recording her 65th on Saturday afternoon to help the Saxons go undefeated in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament with a win over St. John Fisher University. Her game-winning home run also clinched her the AU and Empire 8 record for single season runs scored, surpassing Liz Thompson '17 and her record of 56 runs scored in 2015. Remm then added two more RBI in the NCAA Regional Tournament held at Christopher Newport University with a two-run home run against Regional Champion, Randolph-Macon.

Remm finished the season with a .462 batting average, recording 67 hits, one shy of the AU school record held by Thompson and three away from the Empire 8 record of 70 hits held by Danielle DeFeo of Stevens Institute of Technology back in 2012. Out of her 67 hits, 17 were double and 12 were home runs with five more being triples. She was walked 18 times and hit-by-pitch five times while only striking out seven times. Remm added 20 stolen bases.

Steward was perfect against Empire 8 opponents, both in the regular season and all four games of the Empire 8 Championships, going 16-0. She posted a 23-4 record overall on the season and only dropped games to nationally-ranked opponents, Gettysburg, Ithaca, Randolph-Macon and Christopher Newport. Her wins broke the school record for most in a single season, held by former teammate, Megan Bennett '24. She added one save to her resume against Saint Joseph's (ME) during the Florida Spring Break trip. In total, Steward struck out batters 147 times in her 172.2 innings pitched. Steward was named an Empire 8 Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week twice and Saxon of the Week once. She also stood out in the batter's box, hitting a .350 batting average with 36 hits. Seven of those were doubles, three were home runs and one was a triple. Steward drove in 22 runs while scoring 24 times herself. Defensively, she had 41 assists and 11 putouts with one error for a .981 fielding percentage.

Remm was also named an National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American Second Team, NFCA All-Region III First Team selection, the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year and All-Empire 8 First Team. Steward also found a spot on the All-Empire 8 First Team and joined Remm in the NFCA D3 All-Region III as a member of the Third Team. Both Remm and Steward were listed on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
