HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University baseball team began their final week of regular season competition with a 17-7 loss to Utica University on Wednesday.

Owen Jennings (Newcastle, ON, Canada/St. Stephen's Secondary) got the start for AU, striking out a pair of batters across 4.1 innings pitched. 

Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) put the ball in play in the third inning, bringing home Jack Grider (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point). Later in the inning, heads-up baserunning from Sam Brocklebank (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) gave the Saxons their first lead of the afternoon. Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence) was credited with the final RBI of the inning for AU, as the Saxons led 3-1. 

Madueno sparked the bats for Alfred University once in the fifth inning, registering an RBI single. Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY Edison) and Will Timpano (Orillia, ON, Canada/Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) each followed with RBI singles, as AU extended their advantage. Utica responded with runs in each of the final four innings to come away with the win after eight innings. 

Alfred University will next travel to face Keuka College on Friday at 3:00 PM.
