ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University baseball team concluded their spring season against Keuka College on Sunday. Due to weather, the Saxons resumed their game that originally began on May 2, followed by a doubleheader.
The Saxons lost the first game 9-1, dropped the second game 12-1, and were defeated 3-0 in the final game.
Game 1
The first hit for AU came in the top of the first inning, as
Benjamin Croote (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh) hit a ball through the left side for a single. The lone run scored for Alfred University came in the eighth inning, after a triple by
Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence) brought home
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area). Keuka relied on runs in each of the first three innings for the early lead and eventual win.
Game 2
Derek Vlietstra (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley) got the start for the Saxons in the second leg of the outing, finishing the game with five strikeouts across 5.0 innings pitched.
Madueno continued to hit well for AU, as an RBI single in the first inning gave the Saxons an early advantage. The Wolves responded with a run in the fourth inning, equalizing the game. Keuka capitalized with multiple runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away with the victory.
Game 3
In the final leg of the outing,
Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) struck out five batters across a complete game effort.
With runners on first and second base, an RBI single by
Sam Brocklebank (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) gave Alfred University the initial advantage. In the fifth inning, the Wolves added three runs to take a lead of their own, eventually coming away with the sweep.
