UTICA, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team ended the regular season on a high note as it earned a dominating 20-3 victory at SUNY Poly on Saturday.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) and
Drew Smith (Walworth, NY/Ruben A. Cirllo) led with four goals apiece. Smith posted a career-high in scoring.
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored three goals while
Keagan Hoesterey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Sam Herle (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and
Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each registered two. Three other Saxons notched one goal apiece.
Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) won 11 faceoffs and picked up a game-high eight ground balls.

The Saxons (6-8, 4-5 Empire 8) outshot the Wildcats (5-10, 1-8 Empire 8), 51-25, with 34-10 in between the pipes. Alfred University also picked up a fourth season best 47 ground balls.
The Saxons will be the No. 6 seed in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, traveling to No. 3 SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday with time yet to be determined.
