UTICA, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team ended the regular season on a high note as it earned a dominating 20-3 victory at SUNY Poly on Saturday.

Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) and Drew Smith (Walworth, NY/Ruben A. Cirllo) led with four goals apiece. Smith posted a career-high in scoring. Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored three goals while Keagan Hoesterey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Sam Herle (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each registered two. Three other Saxons notched one goal apiece.

Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) won 11 faceoffs and picked up a game-high eight ground balls.

"Nice to end the regular season with a win," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Drew Smith stepped in and had a day today on offense. Shane Cubala played great defense between the lines. Overall, great team effort and nice to bounce back. Time to get ready for the playoffs."

The Saxons (6-8, 4-5 Empire 8) outshot the Wildcats (5-10, 1-8 Empire 8), 51-25, with 34-10 in between the pipes. Alfred University also picked up a fourth season best 47 ground balls.

The Saxons will be the No. 6 seed in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, traveling to No. 3 SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday with time yet to be determined.
