HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University baseball team began their weekend series with a pair of losses to Brockport on Saturday.
The Saxons lost the first game in 18-1 fashion, while losing 20-0 in the second leg of the doubleheader.
Game One
Alfred University relied on four different players on the mound in the first outing of the afternoon.
An infield single for
Will Timpano (Orillia, ON, Canada/Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) marked the first base hit for the Saxons in the bottom of the first inning. In the following at-bat,
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) registered an RBI double to right field to put AU on the scoreboard.
Ashton Colunio (Elmira, NY/Edison) and
Jack Grider (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) were each credited with a hit for the Saxons, but the scoring efforts of Brockport were too much to overcome.
Game 2
Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) made the start on the mound for the Saxons.
The first base hit for AU came in the second inning, as
Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence) smacked a single up the middle. In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) recorded a hit through the left side.
Brayden Bedingfield (Seabrook, TX/Clear Falls) knocked a double to lead off the sixth inning, but the Golden Eagles once again relied on consistent offense to come away with the sweep.
Alfred University will next celebrate Senior Day on Sunday against Brockport with a single game beginning at 12:00 PM.
