HOUGHTON, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team fell in a 9-0 sweep to the high-ranking Oswego State team on Friday night.
"It is tough to play with the number one team in the conference without one of our top lineup players," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "I am extremely pleased with the way the team bonded together and fought for every point. The energy was awesome and we are going to carry that into tomorrow."
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) fought hard in both his doubles and singles match. He was able to snag two points in the second set of his singles match. Paired up with
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) for the doubles match, they fought tooth and nail to the wire in the 8-5 defeat. Bittel also got a point in the first set of his singles match.
Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) was also in the spirit of competition with
Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) in their doubles matchup. Tran was also able to snatch three points in his singles match to keep things close.
Ivan Collins (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) also made his second appearance of the season in his freshman year, also gaining a point in his singles match.
